Railway Pneumatic Hoses – High-Pressure Air Hoses for Train Brake & Pneumatic Systems

JK Fenner Railway Pneumatic Hoses are engineered for the compressed air circuits that power the braking, suspension, door operation, and auxiliary pneumatic systems on railway rolling stock. These hoses operate under the demanding conditions of rail service: continuous pressure cycling from brake applications, exposure to compressor oil mist and moisture, extreme ambient temperatures, UV radiation, and — critically — zero tolerance for sudden failure that could trigger an emergency brake application or door malfunction. Manufactured with textile-reinforced elastomer constructions (typically NBR or EPDM inner tubes with CR or CSM outer covers), Fenner pneumatic hoses provide the burst pressure safety margin, flexibility for installation in congested bogie and underframe spaces, and long-term ageing resistance required for railway applications. All hoses meet the international railway standards (AAR and EN) that govern pneumatic system components in rolling stock.

High Burst Pressure Safety Margin

Multi-layer textile-reinforced construction provides a burst pressure rating at least 3x the maximum operating pressure, ensuring safety margin throughout the hose's service life.

Oil-Mist-Resistant Inner Tube Compounds

NBR inner tubes resist degradation from compressor oil carryover, a common contaminant in railway compressed air systems that causes premature failure of non-resistant hoses.

Weather-Resistant Outer Cover for Underframe Exposure

CR (chloroprene) outer covers provide excellent resistance to ozone, UV radiation, temperature extremes, and mechanical abrasion encountered in bogie and underframe installations.

Flexibility for Tight Installation Spaces

Engineered hose constructions balance pressure capability with bend flexibility, enabling installation in the confined spaces typical of bogie brake rigging and underframe pipe runs.

Consistent Performance Across Temperature Extremes

Hose materials maintain flexibility and pressure integrity from -40°C winter conditions to desert summer ambient temperatures exceeding +50°C.

AAR & EN Railway Standards Compliance

Pneumatic hoses are designed, tested, and manufactured in compliance with relevant international railway standards, providing documented assurance for railway operators and OEMs.

Pneumatic Hoses: The Arteries of Railway Brake & Control Systems

A modern railway vehicle relies on a network of pneumatic hoses to transmit the compressed air that controls its most critical functions: brake application and release, air suspension height adjustment, door opening and closing, horn and wiper actuation, and sanding for wheel adhesion. A failed pneumatic hose on a brake circuit can cause an undesired emergency brake application, stranding a train and disrupting service. On a door system, a failed hose can prevent station departure. JK Fenner railway pneumatic hoses are manufactured with the understanding that they serve within these safety-critical circuits. Material selection, reinforcement design, and end-fitting attachment are all engineered to deliver reliable, long-life performance validated to the international standards that railway operators require.
