Hooks & Swivels

Hooks and swivels form the load‑bearing interface between the lifting machine and the suspended load. The hook must securely capture, retain, and release the load while the swivel accommodates rotation, prevents sling twisting, and allows the rigger to position the hook precisely before the lift begins. The Crosby and Gunnebo Industries portfolio spans clevis hooks, eye hooks, self‑locking safety hooks, shank hooks, and swivel hooks with 360° ball‑bearing rotation rated from a few hundred kilograms to over 50 tonnes. Key differentiators include the patented GripLatch® self‑closing mechanism, the recessed SHUR‑LOC® trigger that sits flush with the hook body, and the electrically insulated, permanently lubricated SKLI swivel bearing—directly reducing the risk of dropped loads, accidental unhooking, and premature component fatigue.

360° Under‑Load Swivel Rotation

Precision ball‑bearing swivels rotate smoothly even at maximum Working Load Limit, eliminating sling twist, preventing load spin, and allowing the rigger to orient the hook without fighting stored torsional energy.

Self‑Locking Safety Latches

Patented GripLatch® and self‑closing trigger mechanisms lock automatically when load is applied and cannot be opened until the hook is fully unloaded, removing human error from the equation.

Grade 100 Alloy Steel Construction

Forged, quenched, and tempered fine‑grain alloy steel delivers 25% higher WLL than Grade 80 equivalents for the same chain size, reducing assembly weight without sacrificing safety margins.

Flush Recessed Trigger Design

The SHUR‑LOC® trigger sits inside the hook body profile, protecting the latch mechanism from side impacts, snagging, and deformation during drag‑up and rough handling.

Electrically Insulated Swivel Systems

The SK modular swivel is tested to resist 1000V, providing a critical safety barrier for riggers working near power lines, railway electrification, and live industrial installations.

Compatibility Across Chain Grades

Hooks are designed to work with both Grade 80 and Grade 100 chain, allowing progressive fleet upgrades without replacing entire sling inventories.

How Swivel Hooks Improve Lifting Operations

In conventional rigging without a swivel, any twist in the wire rope or synthetic sling translates directly into an uncontrolled load rotation as the assembly takes weight. A properly specified swivel hook decouples the load from the rope lay, absorbing rotational energy in the bearing rather than transferring it to the load—delivering a predictable, controlled lift from initial tension to final placement. For operations involving repetitive picks such as precast yard handling and steel fabrication, swivel hooks reduce rigging time per cycle and extend the service life of expensive synthetic slings by preventing internal fiber abrasion from torsional loading.

Choosing Between Clevis, Eye, and Shank Hooks

Clevis hooks connect directly to chain via a load‑retaining pin, eliminating the weight and potential failure point of an intermediate connecting link. Eye hooks are designed to mate with wire rope thimbles or synthetic sling eyes via a coupler or shackle, providing maximum flexibility for variable rigging configurations. Shank hooks feature a straight machined shank for permanent swage or splice attachment into wire rope terminations. Selecting the correct hook‑to‑assembly interface eliminates the inefficiency of adaptor hardware while ensuring the connection is engineered—rather than improvised—for the rated load.
