Shackles
Shackles are the fundamental connection points in any lifting, rigging, mooring, or load securement system. Forged from high-strength alloy or stainless steel and available in multiple configurations—anchor (bow) shackles, chain (dee) shackles, and specialty variants—they provide the secure mechanical link between chains, wire ropes, synthetic slings, master links, hooks, and the load itself. Engineered for overhead lifting, marine mooring, offshore subsea operations, and industrial material handling, Crosby and Gunnebo Industries shackles are manufactured to meet and exceed international standards including EN 13889, ASME B30.26, RR‑C‑271, and Norwegian aquaculture requirements. Each shackle is individually proof‑tested, permanently marked with its Working Load Limit (WLL) and a unique Product Identification Code (PIC) for full traceability, and supplied with certification. The range covers WLLs from under 1 tonne to over 85 tonnes.

Full Material Traceability
Every shackle carries a unique Product Identification Code (PIC) laser‑marked on the body and pin, enabling instant verification of the raw material heat, manufacturing batch, and proof‑test certificate.
Engineered Design Factors for Predictable Safety
Standard shackles are rated at 4:1, 5:1, or 6:1 design factors depending on application, giving engineers a calculable safety margin between Working Load Limit and minimum ultimate strength.
Environment‑Specific Corrosion Protection
Choose hot‑dip galvanized (HDG) for general industrial and marine atmospheric use, or AISI 316 stainless steel with polished finish for permanent immersion, chemical washdown, and hygienic food‑grade environments.
Oversized Bow Options for Synthetic Compatibility
Wide‑body and Sling Saver® bow designs increase the effective bearing area, eliminate sling bunching, reduce fiber stress, and allow synthetic round slings and web slings to achieve 100% of their rated WLL.
No‑Loose‑Parts ROV Operable Designs
Subsea shackles feature shark‑tooth locking indicators, spring‑loaded high‑visibility handles, and zero loose components in both open and closed positions, eliminating snagging hazards and enabling remote manipulator operation.
Certification & Third‑Party Type Approval
Products are fully compliant with EN 13889, EN 1677‑1, ASME B30.26, DNV 2.7‑1, and Norwegian aquaculture standards; certificates of conformance and individual proof‑test reports are supplied as standard.
Why Choose Crosby/Gunnebo Shackles Over Commodity Alternatives
Commodity‑import hardware often lacks individual proof testing, omits permanent WLL and PIC markings, and uses unverified steel with unknown fatigue properties. Crosby and Gunnebo Industries shackles are manufactured in Sweden, Norway, and the USA under ISO‑certified quality systems, with every load‑bearing component quenched and tempered to achieve the ductility and impact toughness required for dynamic lifting. For organisations operating under LOLER, OSHA, NORSOK, or class‑society jurisdiction, the auditable paper trail is a regulatory requirement, not a luxury.

Applications Across Key Industries
In offshore oil and gas, ROV‑operable shackles handle subsea retrieval and release operations at depths exceeding 3,000 metres. Maritime operations rely on hot‑dip galvanized anchor shackles for mooring systems and cargo‑handling gear. Construction projects use Grade 8 and Grade 10 chain shackles for structural steel erection and precast concrete lifting. Aquaculture depends on mooring shackles designed to Norwegian standard NS 9415, resisting years of wave‑induced cyclic loading. Heavy manufacturing selects heat‑resistant alloy shackles rated for continuous service at temperatures up to 400°C.
