Axial Clamp Seals
SKF axial clamp seals, also known as bonded seals or bolt-on seals, are rubber-to-metal bonded static sealing washers used to seal flange faces, through-holes, and bolt heads against oil or fluid leakage. They consist of a metal outer ring and an inner elastomer lip (typically NBR or FKM) that compresses as the bolt is tightened. While not dynamic seals, they are a critical component in the power transmission sealing family, used on bearing housing covers, split housing joints, sight glass fittings, and oil drain plugs. The bonded construction provides a robust, reusable seal that withstands high tightening torque. SKF offers a full range of metric and inch sizes.

Reusable Bolt-On Design
Withstands multiple assembly/disassembly cycles.
Tight Static Seal
Elastomer lip compresses for effective oil and grease retention.
High Torque Resistance
Metal ring prevents extrusion under bolt load.
NBR and FKM Materials
Compatible with mineral and synthetic lubricants.
Wide Size Range
Standard metric and inch bolt sizes stocked.
Simplifies Housing Design
No O-ring grooves required.
Using Axial Clamp Seals on Bearing Housings
Sight glasses, breather vents, and drain plugs on plummer block housings all require leak-free static sealing. SKF axial clamp seals ensure that these accessories do not become oil leak paths, maintaining the bearing’s lubrication charge over its full service interval.

Material Choices for Static Sealing
NBR clamp seals suffice for standard mineral oil and grease. For synthetic oils or higher temperatures above 100°C, FKM clamp seals provide the necessary thermal and chemical stability. SKF’s compatibility tables confirm the right choice.
