Ball Bearing Units for High Temperature Applications
SKF ball bearing units for high temperature applications sustain continuous operation at temperatures from 150°C up to 250°C. They incorporate dimensionally stabilized bearing inserts with increased internal clearance (C4 or C5), graphite or polyalkylene glycol-based lubricants, and manganese phosphate coatings for anti-corrosion and anti-galling. Housings are made of spheroidal graphite cast iron or specially heat-treated grey cast iron. The units are used in kiln truck wheels, oven conveyors, bakery lines, and dryer sections. Special seals, often graphite-based or metallic, resist hardening and leakage at elevated temperatures. These units allow designers to eliminate water cooling jackets, simplifying machinery and conserving energy.

250°C Continuous Rating
Dimensionally stable through proprietary heat treatment.
High-Clearance Inserts
C5 clearance prevents thermal preload seizure.
Heat-Resistant Lubricants
Graphite or PTFE-filled greases remain effective at peak temperature.
Protective Coatings
Manganese phosphate prevents welding of bearing surfaces at high heat.
Robust Housing Material
Spheroidal graphite iron withstands thermal cycling without cracking.
Simplified Machinery Design
Removes the need for water-cooled bearing arrangements.
Bearing Solutions for Industrial Oven Conveyors
Curing ovens for coatings and bakery tunnels expose bearings to steady high heat. SKF units maintain reliable rolling motion, preventing the jamming and dragging that disrupt production flow and damage product. The extended clearance ensures free rotation as the shaft thermally expands.

Lubrication Strategy at Extreme Temperatures
Standard greases carbonize above 160°C. SKF employs graphite paste or special thermally stable synthetic greases that maintain a friction-reducing film, often with solid lubricant additives that continue to function after oil evaporation, ensuring extended bearing life at temperature extremes.
