SKF
BB Series Metric Thin Section Ball Bearings
The BB series comprises metric-sized, single-row deep groove ball bearings with an ultra-thin cross-section. Despite the thin rings, SKF optimises internal geometry and ball complements to provide high load capacity and rigidity for metric-dimensioned applications. The BB series is ideal for use where the design is based on metric shaft diameters but requires the space and weight savings of thin section bearings — such as in European robotic arms, medical devices, and precision measurement equipment. Sealed and shielded versions are available, pre-greased for life. The standard metric dimensions align with ISO preferences, simplifying procurement for machine builders already working in metric.

Metric Dimensions
Standard metric bores and ODs for ISO-compliant design.
Thin Cross-Section
Maintains lightweight construction alongside European design standards.
Deep Groove Geometry
Handles radial and moderate axial loads.
Pre-Greased and Sealed
Maintenance-free operation in clean environments.
High Precision
P5, P4 options for metrology applications.
Interchangeable
Standard sizes drop into metric design drawings.
BB Series in Laboratory Automation Robots
Liquid handling robots often use metric-frame motors and shafts. BB series thin section bearings support these lightweight, high-speed arms with minimal inertia, allowing faster cycling and precise pipette positioning. The sealed bearings resist accidental chemical splash.

Comparing BB Series to Reali-Slim Inch Offerings
The BB series provides the same thin-section benefits but in metric dimensions, including standard bore sizes like 20 mm, 30 mm, 50 mm, etc. This avoids the need for metric-to-inch adapter sleeves and simplifies inventory for metric-only OEMs.
