SKF
Bushings
SKF bushings are cylindrical plain bearings designed for radial loads, available in composite, sintered bronze, and thermoplastic materials. They offer a compact, lightweight, and maintenance-free (when composite) alternative to rolling bearings for rotating, oscillating, and linear motion. Composite bushings with PTFE or POM liners provide low friction, wear resistance, and excellent chemical compatibility — ideal for hydraulic cylinders, agricultural machinery, and food processing equipment. Bronze bushings suit higher temperature and heavy load applications with lubrication. SKF bushings come in standard metric and inch sizes, including cylindrical and flanged variants, with the option of custom machining. Their thin-wall design minimises space and weight, and their self-lubricating nature eliminates grease fittings, reducing maintenance costs and environmental contamination.

Self-Lubricating Composite
PTFE- and POM-based materials run dry, no grease.
High Load Capacity
Fibre reinforcement handles edge loads and shocks.
Thin-Wall Construction
Saves radial space and weight compared to rolling bearings.
Corrosion and Chemical Resistance
Suitable for saltwater, acids, and cleaning agents.
Wide Temperature Range
-200°C to +280°C depending on material.
Cylindrical and Flanged Types
Flanged bushings provide axial location and combined load support.
Composite Bushings in Hydraulic Cylinders
Cylinder rod guide bushings need to withstand high pressure, small oscillating motions, and operate in oil. SKF composite bushings with POM liners are dimensionally stable in hydraulic oil, reduce stick-slip for smooth actuation, and eliminate the need for greasing while protecting the rod from scoring.

Flanged vs. Cylindrical Bushings
Flanged bushings provide a thrust face that absorbs axial load and acts as a locating surface, simplifying housing design. Cylindrical bushings are purely radial and require a separate thrust washer if axial load is present. SKF’s range includes both in multiple materials.
