Cam Followers
Cam followers, also known as stud-type track rollers, consist of a thick-walled outer ring, needle roller or cylindrical roller bearing, and an integral threaded stud that bolts directly onto a machine part. SKF cam followers are ready-to-mount units that eliminate separate axle and housing components. They are widely used in cam mechanisms, indexing drives, packaging machines, printing presses, and automation equipment. The stud is hardened and has a hexagon socket or slot for tightening. Outer ring profiles include cylindrical, crowned, and eccentric versions for adjustable positioning. Sealed with contact or metal shields and pre-greased, they provide a compact, low-friction, maintenance-free roller for demanding intermittent motion.

Integral Threaded Stud
Simple bolt-on mounting saves design and assembly time.
Compact Roller Profile
Small footprint for tight mechanism spaces.
Sealed and Pre-Greased
No need for additional lubrication.
High Dynamic Load Capacity
Needle/roller bearing supports heavy cam forces.
Eccentric Adjustment Available
Allows fine positioning of the cam follower relative to the track.
Crowned Options
Compensate for cam misalignment.
Cam Followers in High-Speed Packaging Machinery
Folding carton mechanisms and blister pack sealers depend on cam followers to convert rotary motion into accurate linear movement at high cycles. SKF’s precision and consistent quality ensure reliable timing over millions of cycles, reducing rejects and downtime.

Stud Strength and Load Rating Considerations
The maximum dynamic load is limited by the stud’s bending fatigue strength. SKF specifies maximum permissible static and dynamic radial loads for each size. For highly loaded applications, a yoke-type roller with a separate, stronger shaft may be preferred.
