Chain Lubrication Solutions

SKF chain lubrication solutions are dedicated systems for the automatic lubrication of drive chains, conveyor chains, and lifting chains. Chains present a unique lubrication challenge: the lubricant must penetrate into the pin and bush articulation points, coat the plates against corrosion, and resist fling-off at speed. SKF offers several lubrication technologies for chains: oil circulation (brush or drip application), oil+air precision injection, minimal quantity aerosol, and grease spray systems. The choice depends on chain speed, load, operating temperature, and environment. SKF chain lubrication systems are used extensively in bottling conveyors, overhead power-and-free lines, motorcycle and industrial drive chains, and food processing conveyors. They apply precisely the right lubricant in the right place, reducing consumption, eliminating messy manual lubrication, and extending chain life significantly by combating pin wear (elongation).

Targeted Pin and Bush Lubrication

Injectors or brushes apply lubricant exactly to the articulation points.

Reduced Lubricant Fling-Off

Precision metering and application minimises waste.

Multiple Technology Options

Oil circulation, oil+air, MQL, and grease spray for different chains.

Food-Grade Options

Systems compatible with NSF H1 lubricants for packaging and bottling.

Chain Life Extension

Proper lubrication reduces pin wear by up to 70%, delaying expensive chain replacement.

Integrated Controllers

Synchronised with line speed to adjust lubricant output automatically.

Lubricating High-Speed Bottling Conveyor Chains

In beverage plants, chains run at high speed in wet, washdown environments. SKF’s precision oil+air injectors deliver a micro-dose of food-grade lubricant directly to each chain pin, reducing water contamination and maintaining chain life. The system integrates with the line PLC to adjust lubricant dose to line speed, ensuring optimal performance during production and clean-in-place cycles.

Grease Spray Systems for Open Gears and Large Chains

For large, slow-moving chains in mining and cement, SKF’s grease spray systems apply an even, adhesive layer of heavy grease to the chain links, protecting against abrasive dust and corrosion. The spray is activated automatically on a time or cycle basis, replacing the dangerous and inconsistent practice of manual stick or paddle greasing.
