End Covers
End covers are protective caps that fit over the open end of a mounted bearing housing, shielding the bearing from external contamination, dust, and mechanical damage. SKF provides end covers for ball bearing unit housings and roller bearing unit housings, including pillow blocks, flange units, and take-up units. Made from pressed steel, plastic, or rubber, they snap or bolt into place. End covers reduce maintenance by preventing dirt accumulation on the shaft and bearing, and also prevent personnel from contacting rotating parts, improving workplace safety. For food, beverage, and pharmaceutical applications, sealed end covers support hygiene standards by eliminating crevices where bacteria could harbour.

Enhanced Contamination Protection
Seals the housing interior from dust and washdown water.
Simple Installation
Press-fit or bolt-on designs require no special tools.
Personnel Safety
Shields rotating shaft ends and lock nuts from accidental contact.
Extended Bearing Life
Reduces solid and liquid contaminant ingress.
Material Options
Steel, plastic, or rubber for chemical compatibility.
Universal Fit
Designed for standard SKF housing dimensions.
Installing End Covers for Improved Food Plant Hygiene
SKF’s plastic or stainless steel end covers close off housing cavities that could trap food residues. They withstand high-pressure washdown and resist cleaning chemicals, helping facilities meet HACCP and GMP standards without additional machine modifications.

Variants for High Temperature and Wet Environments
For kilns and ovens, heat-resistant covers maintain integrity up to 200°C. For wet mining or marine, rubber or zinc-plated steel covers with gaskets provide a water-tight seal. Choosing the correct cover material is key to achieving full bearing life.
