Flanged Ball Bearing Units
Flanged ball bearing units combine a Y-bearing insert with a housing that has a flange face for perpendicular mounting onto a machine frame or panel. SKF provides 2-, 3-, and 4-bolt flange configurations in cast iron, composite, and stainless steel. Common applications include through-shaft support on tanks, hoppers, and process vessels, as well as end-wall bearings in augers and mixers. The units accommodate radial loads and light axial thrust, and the sphered outer ring eases alignment. Sealed and pre-greased, they require minimal maintenance. Selecting the right bolt pattern and material ensures the flange unit integrates seamlessly into the machine structure, reducing assembly labour and alignment costs.

Perpendicular Surface Mounting
Flange face attaches directly to flat surfaces.
Multiple Bolt Patterns
2-bolt oval, 3-bolt, and square 4-bolt for flexibility.
Easy Through-Shaft Support
Ideal for shaft penetration into tanks or enclosures.
Self-Aligning Bearing Insert
Compensates for mounting surface inaccuracies.
Corrosion-Resistant Options
Composite and stainless for aggressive environments.
Pre-Lubricated and Sealed
Maintenance-free operation in normal conditions.
Flanged Unit Applications in Process Equipment
Tanks, mixers, and screw conveyors often require a flanged bearing on the vessel wall. SKF’s sealed flange units prevent process fluid leakage through the housing while resisting external contamination from washdown. This dual protection improves food and chemical plant hygiene.

2-Bolt vs. 4-Bolt Flanged Housings
Oval 2-bolt flanges allow positioning adjustment before final tightening, simplifying alignment. Square 4-bolt flanges provide higher moment load resistance, preferable when cantilever forces act on the shaft. SKF stocks both, ensuring the right configuration for the load case.
