Fork Seals for Motorcycles and Bicycles

SKF fork seals are specifically designed for the telescopic front forks of motorcycles and bicycles. These seals must retain damping oil and exclude water, mud, dust, and grit from the fork stanchions under all riding conditions. SKF produces these seals from wear-resistant polyurethane and NBR materials, with dual-lip designs: a wiper lip that scrapes debris from the stanchion and a primary sealing lip that keeps oil inside the fork. For high-performance motorcycles, SKF offers low-friction compounds and specially textured lips that reduce stiction for improved suspension response. The seals are available in standard sizes for most major motorcycle brands and as upgrades. In mountain biking, SKF supplies low-friction, high-performance fork seals that contribute to the plush feel and reliability demanded by racers and enthusiasts.

Dual‑Lip Design

Primary oil seal lip and external wiper lip in one unit.

Low‑Friction Polyurethane

Reduces stiction for improved fork compliance.

Side‑Load Tolerance

Maintains seal even during fork leg flex under braking.

Contaminant Exclusion

Wipes mud, insects, and grit from the stanchion tube.

Standardised Sizes

Available for almost all modern motorcycle and mountain bike forks.

Aftermarket Upgrade Kits

Complete kits with oil seals, dust seals, and fork oil.

Why a Low‑Friction Fork Seal Transforms Motorcycle Ride Feel

High seal friction prevents the fork from responding to small road irregularities, making the ride feel “wooden.” SKF’s low‑friction fork seals allow the suspension to absorb these small bumps, translating into improved tyre grip and rider confidence, especially on wet or rough tarmac.

Diagnosing a Leaking Fork Seal vs. Just a Dirty One

A smear of oil on the stanchion after a ride may be a leaking seal, or it may be a trapped piece of dirt preventing the lip from sealing. SKF’s “Seal Mate” tool can often dislodge the debris without disassembly. If the leak persists, the SKF seal kit provides everything needed for a permanent fix.
