Hub Caps
SKF hub caps are protective, oil-tight covers that fit over the outer end of a vehicle's wheel hub, sealing the wheel bearing cavity. They serve multiple functions: retaining lubricant, preventing contamination, regulating internal pressure via a vent, and on oil-lubricated systems, providing a sight glass for checking oil level and condition. SKF hub caps are made from robust materials — steel, aluminium, or high-impact polymer — and are fitted with a reliable O-ring or gasket seal against the hub face. Some incorporate a magnetic drain plug for capturing wear particles. A correctly specified and maintained hub cap is essential for wheel end reliability. A missing or damaged hub cap allows water and dirt to enter, rapidly destroying the bearing and seal. SKF hub caps are widely used in commercial vehicles, trailers, and agricultural equipment.

Ductile iron, aluminium, or high‑impact polymer.
O‑Ring or Gasket Seals
Reliable static seal against the hub face.
Tamper‑Evident Features
Guards against unauthorised access to hub oil.
How Hub Caps Complement Hub Bearing Seals
The hub cap forms the static, outer boundary of the wheel‑end lubrication system, while the dynamic seal protects the rotating interface. Together, they create a clean, enclosed oil chamber. A missing or cracked hub cap immediately destroys the benefit of a premium cassette seal, as water and dirt pour directly into the bearing.

Oil‑Bath vs. Grease‑Lubricated Hub Cap Design
Oil‑bath hubs require a transparent sight glass for level checks and a breather vent to release pressure. Grease‑lubricated hubs use a simple, solid cap with a rubber plug for purging. SKF provides both types, clearly labelled to prevent the mistake of using a vented cap with grease, which would allow contamination in.
