Hydraulic Tools for Mounting and Dismounting

SKF hydraulic tools for mounting and dismounting use high-pressure hydraulic force to safely install and remove bearings, couplings, gears, and other interference-fit components. The range includes hydraulic nuts (HMV series), oil injectors and pumps, hydraulic pullers, and complete hydraulic maintenance kits. Hydraulic nuts apply uniform axial pressure to drive a bearing up its tapered seat or adapter sleeve, providing precise control over the drive-up distance. Oil injection methods create a lubricating film between shaft and bearing bore, dramatically reducing the force required for mounting or dismounting large bearings. Hydraulic pullers generate tonnes of controlled extraction force without damaging shafts or housings. These tools are essential for medium to large industrial bearings, especially in mining, paper, steel, and marine applications where sheer size and interference fit would make manual methods impossible or destructive. SKF hydraulic tools represent the professional standard for bearing maintenance.

Controlled, Uniform Force

Eliminates hammering and uneven stress on bearing rings.

High Force Capacity

Hydraulic nuts and pullers generate up to thousands of tonnes of pressure.

Oil Injection Integration

Reduces friction and prevents shaft scoring during dismounting.

Precision Drive-Up Measurement

Enables accurate bearing clearance reduction by measuring axial displacement.

Safe for Large Bearings

The only practical method for mounting and dismounting multi-tonne mill bearings.

Portable and Robust

Designed for workshop and field use in harsh industrial conditions.

Using the SKF Drive-Up Method with Hydraulic Nuts

The drive-up method sets the correct radial internal clearance in spherical roller and CARB bearings mounted on tapered seats. A hydraulic nut pushes the bearing up the taper while a dial gauge measures axial displacement. SKF provides drive-up tables for every bearing size, ensuring precise clearance setting without trial and error, optimising bearing life.

Oil Injection: The Key to Damage-Free Dismounting

For large bearings with tapered or cylindrical bores, injecting high-pressure oil between the shaft and inner ring creates an oil film that separates the surfaces, reducing the force needed for extraction by up to 90%. SKF oil injectors and pumps with matched adapters make this technique practical and accessible for maintenance crews.
