Insert Bearings (Y-Bearings)
Insert bearings, also known as Y-bearings, are deep groove ball bearings with a sphered (convex) outer ring that allows initial misalignment when mounted in corresponding SKF housings. They feature an extended inner ring with a grub screw, eccentric locking collar, or adapter sleeve for easy shaft locking. SKF Y-bearings are typically supplied sealed and pre-greased, making them the primary bearing type for mounted bearing units in agricultural machinery, conveyor systems, and air handling equipment. Their design simplifies assembly and alignment, reducing installation time and the need for precision machining of housing seats. Available in various housing series (pillow block, flange, take-up), insert bearings serve as quick-fit, ready-to-install solution for medium-load, low-to-medium speed applications. SKF offers variants in stainless steel, with composite housings, and food-grade options.

Easy Shaft Locking
Grub screw, eccentric collar, or adapter sleeve mountings eliminate the need for shoulders or locknuts.
Initial Misalignment Capability
Sphered outer ring compensates for ±2-5° static misalignment.
Sealed and Greased for Life
Pre-lubricated with premium grease and sealed; maintenance-free for most applications.
Interchangeable Housings
One bearing can fit multiple housing styles, reducing inventory complexity.
Corrosion-Resistant Options
Stainless steel Y-bearings or zinc-coated variants for harsh environments.
Quick Installation
Reduces assembly costs compared to traditional bearing mounting.
Y-Bearing Shaft Locking Methods: Grub Screw vs. Eccentric Collar
Grub screw locking with two set screws is standard for constant-direction rotation. Eccentric locking collars provide stronger grip and are preferred when rotation direction changes or shock loads are present. SKF’s selection based on safety and disassembly guidance helps avoid shaft damage.

Insert Bearings for Agricultural and Conveying Applications
Y-bearings withstand dust, crop debris, and moisture thanks to heavy-duty seals. Ball bearing units with cast iron or composite housings provide robust support, while stainless versions suit corrosive agricultural chemicals. In conveyors, easy alignment adjustments reduce frame fabrication costs.
