Power Transmission Seals (Machined Version)
SKF machined power transmission seals extend the SEAL JET capability to rotary sealing applications, providing custom large-diameter and non-standard radial shaft seals, rotary seals, and V-rings without tooling. These machined seals are produced from the same elastomers and polyurethanes used in moulded SKF seals, ensuring high wear resistance and sealing performance. The service is invaluable for large rotating equipment such as hydropower turbines, ship propeller shafts, wind turbine main bearings, and large industrial gearboxes. Machined rotary seals can be produced with hydrodynamic lip features, multiple lips, and integrated spring grooves to match original equipment performance. For repair shops and operators of large machinery, this capability slashes seal replacement lead times from months to days and allows upgrading to newer, better materials during the repair.

Rotary and Static Seals
Radial shaft seals, V‑rings, axial face seals available machined.
Large Diameters
Up to several metres for hydro‑turbine main shaft seals.
Custom Lip Profiles
Hydrodynamic aids and multi‑lip configurations machined.
Rapid Replacement
Replaces failed seals without waiting for a mould.
Material Upgrade Capability
Retrofit to modern FKM or HNBR where original was NBR.
Segmented Large Seals
For seals that cannot be stretched over a flange.
Segmented Large‑Diameter Shaft Seals for a Hydro Turbine
The 2.5‑metre diameter main shaft seal of a Kaplan turbine needed replacement. SKF machined the seal in six segments with precision‑spliced joints, assembled in‑place on the turbine shaft without removing the runner. The repair was completed during a scheduled outage, avoiding dry‑dock.

Retrofitting a 1950s Gearbox with a Modern Machined Rotary Seal
The original leather seal was obsolete. SKF reverse‑engineered the housing and shaft dimensions, and machined an HNBR radial shaft seal with an integral dust lip. The modern material doubled the seal life and eliminated the chronic oil mist that the old seal could not control.
