Pulleys
SKF pulleys are precision-machined V-belt pulleys and synchronous belt pulleys (timing pulleys) designed to perfectly match SKF belts for optimal power transfer, belt life, and efficiency. The range includes solid and spoked pulleys in cast iron, steel, and aluminium, available with standard, QD, or taper bushing bores for easy shaft mounting and belt tensioning. V-belt pulleys are available in standard groove profiles (SPZ, SPA, SPB, SPC, and classical) to suit any wrap wedge configuration. Timing pulleys feature precisely ground tooth profiles (T, AT, HTD, STD) to match the belt pitch and ensure positive, low-backlash engagement. SKF pulleys are statically balanced for smooth operation and are treated for corrosion resistance. Using a matched SKF pulley and belt set ensures the full rated power capacity of the drive is achieved and extends the overall transmission life. Application engineering support is available for multi-groove, banded, and special pulley designs.

Taper Bushing vs. QD Bushing: Pulley Mounting Options
Taper bushings (SKF’s standard) use a split taper design with locking screws that pull the bushing into the pulley hub, clamping tightly onto the shaft. QD bushings offer a similar principle with a flanged design. Both allow easy pulley removal without pullers and accommodate various shaft diameters with a single pulley bore. SKF provides complete bushing kits.

Matching Pulley Groove Profile to Belt Type
Using a classical profile belt on a wedge profile pulley, or vice versa, causes rapid wear and slippage. SKF pulleys are clearly marked with the profile designation and diameter, ensuring correct pairing. For multi-belt drives, SKF supplies banded pulleys with shared grooves and matched belt sets to equalise load.
