Rod Ends
Rod ends are spherical plain bearings integrated into a housing with a threaded shank (male or female), enabling direct attachment into linkages, actuators, and control rods. SKF supplies rod ends in steel-on-steel, steel-on-bronze, and maintenance-free steel/PTFE composite or fabric versions. They are used for connecting hydraulic cylinder pistons, adjusting tension rods, aligning optical mounts, and forming flight control linkages. The threaded shank allows easy length adjustment and replacement. SKF rod ends are available with right-hand or left-hand threads, with integral seals, and in stainless steel for corrosive environments. Their ready-to-mount configuration significantly reduces engineering and manufacturing time compared to building custom pivots.

Rod Ends in Hydraulic Cylinder Clevises
Hydraulic cylinders often require a rod end to attach the piston rod to the machine structure. SKF’s maintenance-free rod ends with spherical plain bearings eliminate pivot wear and the need for scheduled greasing on mobile equipment like loaders and agricultural sprayers.

Aerospace Control Rod Ends
Aircraft push-pull control rods use high-strength, lightweight rod ends with self-lubricating liners. These provide slack-free articulation and resist vibration, meeting FAA/EASA airworthiness standards. SKF’s aerospace rod ends are traceable and certified.
