SDAF Series Including the Extended Range
The SDAF series represents SKF’s heavy-duty inch-dimension split pillow block housings for the largest industrial bearings, incorporating an extended range of sizes beyond typical SAF/SAW dimensions. These are massive, cast steel or ductile iron housings designed to support spherical roller bearings with bores up to several hundred millimetres (or over 20 inches). They incorporate multi-stage taconite seals, oil lubrication systems, and provisions for water cooling. Primary applications include mine hoist sheaves, large mill pinion shafts, and primary crusher main shafts. The housing’s inherent strength, combined with precisely machined split joints, ensures stable bearing support under extreme shock and vibration. The extended range addresses specialised sizes required by custom heavy machinery, with engineered-to-order options for specific load cases and seal requirements.

Mega-Load Capability
Handles bearing dynamic loads in thousands of kN.
Cast Steel/Ductile Iron Body
Withstands severe impact; ductile iron resists crack propagation.
Advanced Taconite Seals
Multi-cavity labyrinth plus grease purges for extreme contamination.
Oil Circulation Ready
Ports for oil inlet, outlet, and cooling coils for thermal management.
Precision-Machined Joints
Maintain perfect alignment under heavy cap bolt torque.
Customisation Available
SKF engineers adapt housing design for unique mill or mine conditions.
SDAF in Primary Gyratory Crushers
The main shaft bearing of a gyratory crusher absorbs boulder-sized shock loads and continuous fine dust. An SDAF housing with taconite seals circulates oil to remove heat and lubricate, while the massive ductile iron structure resists fatigue. These housings are integral to crusher uptime.

Extended Range Engineering and Delivery
For legacy machinery where standard housings are obsolete, SKF’s extended range covers imperial dimensions from historic drawing archives. SKF can manufacture one-off SDAF housings to match original footprints, saving the cost of foundation and shaft modifications.
