Seals for General Industrial Applications
SKF seals for general industrial applications are the standard radial shaft seals (typically NBR or FKM with single or double lips) used in electric motors, fans, pumps, conveyors, and standard gearboxes in processing and manufacturing. They seal mineral oils, synthetic lubricants, and greases at moderate temperatures (up to 100°C for NBR, 200°C for FKM) and shaft speeds. These seals are dimensioned according to international standards (ISO 6194, DIN 3760), making them globally interchangeable and readily available from stock. SKF produces them with quality-controlled lip springs, precisely trimmed edges, and a wide range of outer coatings for optimal housing fit. For a typical industrial rotating machine, these seals provide a reliable, cost-effective sealing solution that is easily replaced during routine maintenance.

ISO/DIN compliant for easy sourcing and replacement.
NBR and FKM Material
Covers the vast majority of industrial fluid and temperature ranges.
Dust Lip Options
Double-lip versions add a secondary barrier for dirty environments.
Garter Spring Retention
Maintains consistent radial load as lip wears.
Housing Bore Compatibility
Metal case or rubber OD for effective static sealing.
Cost-Efficient
High-volume production ensures competitive pricing and availability.
Double Lip vs. Single Lip Standard Seals
A single lip seal with a spring is adequate for clean, lubricant-rich environments. A double lip seal adds an auxiliary dust lip that blocks fine particles and retains grease, making it the better choice for conveyors, fans in dusty halls, and many exposed industrial machines. The marginal cost increase is easily recovered through extended bearing life.

Recognising and Preventing Standard Seal Failures
Hardened or cracked lips indicate excessive heat from high shaft speed or low lubricant level. A polished, grooved, or worn lip edge suggests abrasive contamination. SKF’s selection tools and installation guides help avoid these conditions by matching the seal to the real operating environment.
