Single Row Cylindrical Roller Bearings
Single row cylindrical roller bearings are the most used type in the cylindrical roller group. SKF offers several designs (NU, N, NJ, NUP) to serve as either non-locating or locating bearings in a shaft system. They can sustain high radial loads and, depending on flange configuration, limited axial loads. Their low friction and high-speed suitability make them a mainstay in electric motors, pumps, compressors, and traction motors. The separable internal design allows the roller/cage assembly to be installed separately from the rings, facilitating inspection and maintenance. SKF Explorer bearings in this category bring significant life extensions, especially under contaminated or marginal lubrication conditions. With precision grades up to SP and P4, they also serve super-precision spindle applications.

High Speed, Low Friction
Optimized cage design and roller guidance allow high n·dm values.
Axial Displacement Capability (NU)
Smooth axial movement under thermal expansion without friction.
One-Direction Locating (NJ)
Supports light axial loads while retaining high radial capacity.
Bidirectional Locating (NUP)
Combined with an angle ring, provides axial location in both directions.
Separable Design
Facilitates mounting in non-separable housings and simplifies maintenance.
SKF Explorer Long Life
Upgraded metallurgy reduces wear in contaminants.
Selecting NU vs. NJ Cylindrical Roller Bearings
Use NU bearings for the non-locating end of a shaft, allowing free thermal expansion. Choose NJ bearings for the locating end when axial forces are moderate and unidirectional. An HJ angle ring with an NJ bearing creates an NUP function for bidirectional location. This modular approach covers the vast majority of industrial shaft arrangements.

Single Row Cylindrical Roller Bearings in Electric Motors
High-speed stability, minimal heat generation, and the ability to handle rotor weight and magnetic pull make single row cylindrical roller bearings a perfect non-locating bearing choice in medium and large frame motors. Paired with a deep groove ball bearing at the drive end, they ensure reliable operation.
