SKF Spectraseal
SKF Spectraseal is a range of high-performance, spring-energised polymer seals designed for demanding rotary and static sealing applications in the energy, chemical processing, and industrial equipment sectors. The seal consists of a machined polymer jacket (typically PTFE, PEEK, or UHMWPE) and a corrosion-resistant metal spring (stainless steel, Elgiloy, or Hastelloy) that energises the sealing lips. The spring compensates for wear, pressure fluctuations, and thermal expansion, ensuring a constant, positive seal. Spectraseal excels in sealing corrosive fluids, gases, and high-viscosity media at temperatures from cryogenic to +300°C, and pressures up to 700 bar (10,000 psi) and beyond. Typical applications include chemical injection pumps, high-pressure valves, swivel joints, and compressor sealing. The low friction, high wear resistance, and chemical inertness of the polymer jacket make Spectraseal a superior alternative to conventional elastomeric seals in aggressive environments.

Spring-Energised Lip
Maintains positive seal as temperature and pressure cycle.
Inert Polymer Jacket
PTFE, PEEK, or UHMWPE resist virtually all chemicals.
Wide Service Envelope
-200°C to +300°C, vacuum to 700+ bar.
Low Friction, No Stick-Slip
Suitable for dynamic sealing in control valves and stroking devices.
Long Service Life
High wear resistance reduces unplanned maintenance intervals.
Custom Engineered
SKF designs jacket profile and spring load for specific application conditions.
Spectraseal for High-Pressure Valve Stem Sealing
In API 6A gate valves and control chokes, the stem seal must prevent fugitive emissions at wellhead pressures. SKF Spectraseal with a PEEK jacket and Hastelloy spring provides a fire-safe, gas-tight seal that meets ISO 15848 fugitive emission standards, even after thousands of cycles.

Choosing the Right Spectraseal Jacket Material
PTFE jackets offer the broadest chemical compatibility and lowest friction, ideal for general chemical sealing up to 260°C. PEEK jackets provide higher strength and extrusion resistance for extreme pressures and temperatures up to 300°C. UHMWPE is selected for excellent abrasion resistance in dynamic applications with particulate media.
