Split Pillow Blocks (Inch Dimensions)
SKF split pillow blocks in inch dimensions — SAF, SAW, and SDAF series — are the American and international standard for heavy-duty, self-aligning bearing housings. The SAF (standard) and SAW (wide) series are cast iron or cast steel housings with a two-piece cap and base, designed for spherical roller bearings, CARB, and self-aligning ball bearings with adapter sleeves or cylindrical bores. The SDAF series covers the extended range for very large shafts and extreme loads, typically in mining, cement, and steel mill applications. All feature split design for ease of installation and maintenance. They are supplied with labyrinth seals, V-rings, or taconite seals. Inch dimensions ensure compatibility with North American and many international industrial equipment standards. SKF’s careful manufacturing yields precise bore alignment, maximising bearing service life in critical plant machinery.

Inch-Standard Mounting
Direct replacement in North American machinery and imperial designs.
SAF and SAW Flexibility
SAF for standard width; SAW for wider bearings and adapters.
Robust Material Choice
Grey cast iron, ductile iron, or cast steel for application demands.
Complete Split Construction
Cap, base, and seals separate for in-situ bearing swap.
Taconite Seal Option (SDAF)
Survives extreme ore dust and aggregate.
Wide Size Range
Shaft diameters from 1-3/16" up to 20" and beyond in SDAF.
SAF vs. SAW: Selecting the Right Width
SAF housings suit standard spherical roller bearings without adapter sleeves. SAW housings are wider to accommodate adapter sleeve length and provide greater axial space — needed when bearings are mounted on sleeves or require increased internal clearance adjustment. SKF housing tables match bearing and sleeve combinations to the correct housing.

SDAF Extended Range for Primary Crushers
The SDAF series includes the largest split pillow blocks, often used on crusher and mill pinion shafts. Their heavy cast steel bases and caps, combined with multi-stage taconite seals, keep bearings alive under boulder impacts and constant grit.
