SKF
Strips
SKF strips are long, dimensionally stable plain bearing material sheets or reels that can be cut and machined to create custom sliding surfaces, guide rails, and wear pads. Available in the same composite materials (PTFE/POM fibre-reinforced), they provide a flexible solution for building custom linear bearings, dovetail slides, and large-diameter bushings that exceed standard sizes. Strips are used in machine tool way covers, telescope guides, and large-diameter rotary joints. They can be bonded, screwed, or mechanically retained onto metal substrates. SKF strips offer low friction, excellent wear resistance, and the ability to run dry, providing design freedom for unique sliding applications without the high cost of custom-moulded bearings.

Suitable for precision linear motion.
Wear Resistant
Outperforms metal-to-metal sliding under low maintenance.
Corrosion and Chemical Resistant
Ideal for marine, offshore, and chemical plant environments.
Designing Custom Linear Slides with SKF Strips
Machine tool builders can bond SKF composite strips onto cast iron or steel guiding surfaces, creating a low-friction, maintenance-free way system. The strips absorb vibration and provide consistent friction regardless of speed, improving positioning accuracy and surface finish in grinding machines.

Bonding and Installation of Plain Bearing Strips
SKF recommends epoxy adhesives for bonding strips to metal substrates. Surface preparation (degreasing, roughening) and correct adhesive selection are crucial for durable adhesion. For thicker strips, counter-sunk screws can be used as mechanical backup.
