Super-Precision Angular Contact Ball Bearings
SKF super-precision angular contact ball bearings are manufactured to P4, P2, and ABEC 7/9 tolerance grades, with contact angles of 15° (for high speed) and 25° (for high stiffness). They are the core bearing type for machine tool spindles, high-speed drilling and milling heads, precision rotary tables, and metrology spindles. Single-row bearings are universally matchable, allowing back-to-back, face-to-face, and tandem arrangements to achieve any combination of load capacity and stiffness. The range includes open and sealed variants (with low-friction nitrile rubber seals), as well as hybrid ceramic ball versions for ultimate speed. SKF’s refined raceway finishes and ball quality minimise vibration and heat generation. With correct preload and lubrication, these bearings deliver sub-micron runout and extended service life, directly contributing to machining precision and productivity.

Ultra-Low Runout
P4 and P2 tolerances for spindles producing fine surface finishes.
Universal Matching
Any bearing from the same production batch pairs precisely.
Sealed for Life Option
Low-friction, non-contact seals contain grease and block contaminants.
Hybrid Ceramic Available
Higher speed, longer grease life, and electric insulation.
Optimised Ball Complements
Maximise dynamic load rating within standard dimensions.
Low Heat Generation
Controlled raceway curvatures minimise friction at high speed.
Bearing Arrangement Configurations for Spindles
Typical arrangements: Tandem sets (DT) for heavy one-direction axial load; back-to-back pairs (DB) for high moment stiffness; face-to-face pairs (DF) for misalignment tolerance. Most spindles use a DB pair at the front for cutting force resistance and a floating cylindrical roller at the rear.

Grease vs. Oil-Air Lubrication in Super-Precision Angular Contact Bearings
At n·dm up to 1.5 million, a high-quality, low-noise grease (like SKF LGLT 2) in a sealed bearing suffices. For higher speeds, minimal-quantity oil-air lubrication precisely meters oil to each bearing, reducing churning heat. SKF provides optimal lubrication settings for each speed range.
