SKF
Thrust Spherical Plain Bearings
Thrust spherical plain bearings (GX series) are engineered to support heavy pure axial loads while allowing angular misalignment. They consist of a shaft washer with a convex spherical surface and a housing washer with a corresponding concave surface. They are used in hydroelectric turbine wicket gate linkages, ship propeller pitch control mechanisms, and heavy vertical shaft thrust supports. SKF offers steel-on-steel and steel-on-PTFE fabric versions. The spherical sliding interface accommodates shaft deflections and structural inaccuracies without inducing bending moment. Their compact axial height makes them ideal where space is limited. Proper lubrication and sealing ensure long service under continuous oscillating motion.

Pure Thrust Support
Designed solely for axial loads, maximising capacity.
Angular Misalignment Compensation
Aligns under non-parallel supporting surfaces.
Compact Height
Thin section saves vertical space in vertical shaft assemblies.
High Static Load Rating
Supports the weight of heavy rotating equipment.
Wear-Resistant Liners
PTFE fabric for maintenance-free dry operation.
Water-Tight Seals (GX..F)
Fluororubber seals for immersed or wet conditions.
Wicket Gate Bearings in Hydro Turbines
Hydro turbine wicket gates regulate water flow and require thrust bearings that can tilt to match the gate spindle deflection. SKF GX series thrust spherical plain bearings provide maintenance-free, precise articulation, critical for efficient turbine speed control and long-term reliability in submerged conditions.

GX..F Sealed Variants for Marine and Offshore
The integral fluororubber seals protect the sliding surface from seawater, silt, and growth. These are designed for propeller pitch control rod bearings, where exposure to the marine environment demands rugged sealing and corrosion-resistant materials.
