V-Ring Seals
SKF V-ring seals are all-elastomer axial lip seals stretched onto a shaft and mounted against a stationary counterface (bearing housing or spacer) to create a dynamic, low-friction seal. The V-shaped lip deflects radially as shaft speed increases, reducing friction and heat, while maintaining an effective barrier against dust, splash water, oil mist, and grease. V-rings are simple to install, do not require tight shaft tolerances, and can accommodate axial shaft movement and angular misalignment. They are commonly used as the primary seal in greased bearing arrangements or as a secondary flinger/protector for radial shaft seals. SKF provides V-rings in NBR and FKM materials, in a vast range of sizes to suit any shaft diameter. Their low cost and ease of use make them a popular choice for agricultural, conveyor, and motor applications.

Simple and Fast Installation
Stretches over shaft end flange or coupling; no housing machining.
Low Friction
Lip lifts at speed, reducing heat, making it suitable for higher RPM.
Accommodates Misalignment
Excellent tolerance for angular and axial shaft movement.
Versatile Sealing
Acts as a primary seal, secondary flinger, or labyrinth addition.
Wide Size Range per Section
Each V-ring size covers a shaft diameter range, reducing inventory.
NBR and FKM Material Options
For standard temperatures and high-heat environments.
Using V-Rings as Bearing Protectors
A V-ring mounted on the shaft outboard of a sealed spherical roller bearing provides an extra barrier against heavy dust and water spray. It also acts as a centrifugal flinger at speed, shedding contaminants. This combination significantly extends bearing life in conveyor pulleys and fan shafts.

V-Ring Selection Based on Shaft Diameter and Speed
Each V-ring profile (VA, VS, VL, etc.) covers a specific shaft diameter range and has a maximum speed limit. SKF’s simple selection table picks the correct profile and size. High-speed applications may require a VL profile designed for increased centrifugal stability.
