Wellhead Seals
SKF wellhead seals are critical components that provide pressure and fluid containment at the top of oil and gas wells, sealing around tubing hangers, casing strings, and annulus packoffs. These seals are engineered to withstand the specific loads, temperatures, and corrosive fluids (H2S, CO2, chlorides) of the well environment. The range includes elastomeric seals (with anti-explosive decompression properties), elastomer-to-metal bonded seals, and metal-to-metal sealing solutions. Designed to meet API 6A and NACE MR0175 standards, SKF wellhead seals ensure well integrity throughout the production lifecycle. They resist extrusion, explosive decompression, and chemical ageing, providing reliable containment for years without intervention. SKF works closely with wellhead OEMs and operators to design seals for specific casing sizes, pressure ratings, and well fluid compositions, often delivering custom-engineered sealing solutions with full material traceability.

Anti-Explosive Decompression Technology in Wellhead Seals
When high-pressure gas dissolves in an elastomeric seal and the pressure is rapidly reduced, the gas expands, forming blisters that can destroy the seal. SKF’s AED seals use carefully formulated rubbers and engineered vent paths to prevent this, critical for gas lift and injection wells where rapid pressure swings are common.

Elastomer Bonding for Reliable Wellhead Casing Seals
For high-pressure casing hanger seals, the elastomer must bond securely to the metal ring to prevent rotation and leakage under setting force. SKF’s proprietary bonding processes and material systems ensure a robust, long-term interface that withstands both mechanical and thermal cycling in the wellbore.
