Wheel End Seals (Automotive)

SKF wheel end seals are robust sealing solutions for the extreme environment of commercial truck, trailer, bus, and off-highway vehicle wheel hubs. The range includes axle seals, hub bearing unit seals (for both light and heavy duty), hub caps, and the renowned Scotseal family for truck wheel ends. These seals must retain semi-fluid grease or oil in the wheel bearings while excluding road water, mud, salt, sand, and brake dust. They face high centrifugal forces, heavy dynamic loads, and prolonged operation with minimal maintenance. SKF’s wheel end seals often employ advanced cassette designs with multiple labyrinth stages, elastomeric lips, and integral wear sleeves, providing a completely self-contained sealing unit that installs easily and protects the bearing for hundreds of thousands of kilometres. Choosing the right SKF wheel end seal reduces truck downtime, extends bearing service intervals, and prevents the safety hazard of wheel-off events caused by lubricant loss.

Hub Caps and Ventilation for Wheel Ends

SKF hub caps are more than just dust covers; they integrate vents, magnetic drain plugs, and sight glasses for oil level inspection. The correct hub cap prevents pressure build-up from temperature changes (which can force oil past seals) and keeps water out when wheels are submerged or pressure-washed. Together with the seal, they form a complete wheel end sealing and lubrication management system.
