Wiper Seals (Machined)
Machined wiper seals from SKF provide custom rod cleaning and contaminant exclusion for non-standard cylinder sizes and special profiles. They can be machined as snap-in profiles with sharp scraping edges or as double-lip designs for extreme dirt exclusion. The SEAL JET process enables the production of wipers with an exact fit to the rod and housing dimensions provided by the customer. This is particularly useful for cylinders that have been rebored or have worn rod dimensions outside the standard range. The machined wipers use the same hard-wearing polyurethane materials that resist tear and abrasion, ensuring that custom-size cylinders receive the same level of protection as standard production models. Applications span from mining truck suspension cylinders to telescopic cylinders in refuse compactors.

Snap‑In and Press‑In Profiles
Machined to exact gland dimensions.
Scraping Edge Angle
Designed for specific contaminant type (ice, mud, metal chips).
Double‑Lip Options
Secondary lip retains residual oil film on rod.
Metal‑Reinforced Cases
For heavy impact areas where plastic wipers could be dislodged.
Temperature‑Resistant Materials
Polyurethane grades for cold or hot environments.
Oversized for Worn Glands
Compensates for damaged wiper seats.
A Machined Ice‑Scraper Wiper for Arctic Logging Equipment
Standard wipers harden in sub‑zero conditions and fail to scrape ice. SKF machined a wiper from a low‑temperature polyurethane that remained flexible at ‑50°C, with a sharp‑angled scraping lip that removed bonded ice from the rod, preventing ice‑induced rod‑seal failure.

Rescuing a Damaged Gland with a Custom Machined Wiper
The wiper seat in an injection moulding machine’s cylinder gland had been damaged during extraction. SKF machined a wiper with a slightly larger OD and a steel‑reinforced body, restoring a secure fit and protecting the new rod seal from plastic pellet contamination.
