Tyrolit Floor Milling Machines | Heavy-Duty Concrete & Asphalt Planing Equipment
Tyrolit Floor Milling Machines are robust, high-torque planing machines designed for the heavy removal of concrete, asphalt, screed, and thick industrial coatings where conventional grinding is inefficient. Unlike a grinder that abrades the surface, a floor milling machine uses a rotating drum with carbide or diamond cutting teeth to physically chip and shave the floor, removing material in millimeter-per-pass increments. This process generates larger chips rather than fine dust, making it exceptionally effective for removing deep thermoplastic markings, thick epoxy, high spots on uneven slabs, and roughening surfaces to a high-profile texture for maximum bonding. Tyrolit milling machines are available in walk-behind and hand-guided models, with drum widths from 150 mm to over 300 mm. They feature powerful motors, variable depth control, and integrated vacuum ports for connection to Tyrolit dust extractors. The aggressive cutting action can remove up to 5 mm of material in a single pass, representing a massive productivity increase compared to repeated diamond grinding passes on heavy coatings. Tyrolit milling machines are a strategic tool for rental companies and specialized coating-removal contractors, tackling the “impossible” jobs that jam standard grinders and delivering flat, clean substrates on schedule and budget. The machines are compatible with Tyrolit’s extensive milling drum range, covering asphalt milling, concrete planing, and coating scarification.

Deep Single-Pass Material Removal
Mill up to 5 mm of concrete, asphalt, or screed in one cut, drastically cutting project time on floor restoration and leveling tasks compared to diamond grinding.
Carbide and Diamond Drum Technology
Interchangeable milling drums with robust tungsten carbide teeth or diamond segments provide the exact cutting aggression needed, from heavy planing to fine scarification for coating adhesion.
Dust-Optimised Chip Production
The milling action generates coarse chips, not respirable dust, dramatically reducing airborne silica and enabling connection to standard dust extraction for a cleaner work environment.
Variable Depth Control with Precision
A calibrated depth adjustment wheel allows the operator to set and maintain exact cutting depths, preventing over-milling and ensuring uniform surface profile across the floor.
Heavy-Duty, Rigid Machine Chassis
Tyrolit milling machines are built on solid steel frames that dampen the vibration of impact cutting, extending machine life and reducing operator fatigue on long passes.
Rapid Drum Change System
Tool-free or single-bolt drum removal allows fast swapping between milling drum types, transforming the machine from an aggressive planer to a fine surface profiler in under a minute.
Why Floor Milling Is the Only Solution for Certain Coating Failures
When a floor coating has undergone catastrophic bond failure, or is a thick, rubbery polyurethane, diamond abrasives will either bounce and skate or instantly gum up. The Tyrolit floor milling machine’s rotating cutters physically chip and eject the coating, unaffected by its composition. For facilities managers, this means a guaranteed preparation method regardless of the coating type. For contractors, the milling machine opens up a service that can be offered at a premium, as many competitors will walk away from a thickly-coated floor. The rapid removal rate also means less machine runtime, saving fuel/electricity costs, and enabling a quicker turnaround for the client. This machine is therefore a profit center for specialized surface preparation companies.

Selecting Milling Drum Configurations for Concrete and Asphalt
Selection of the milling drum is based on the material and required profile. Coarse carbide teeth (asphalt drum) are for bituminous surfaces and heavy paint lines. Fine carbide teeth (concrete drum) are for leveling uneven concrete, removing screed, and creating a heavy mechanical key for bonded overlays. Diamond-tooth drums are specified for hard, high-psi concrete or for extremely long drum life. Tyrolit’s technical support will advise on the optimal drum spec and operating speed for the specific project material, based on a sample test area.
