Tyrolit Milling Tools | Diamond & Carbide Milling Wheels for Concrete & Asphalt Removal

Tyrolit Precision Grinding Tools comprise an exceptionally engineered portfolio of vitrified and resinoid bonded grinding wheels, diamond and CBN superabrasives, dressing tools, and honing stones that together address every precision material removal requirement in high-tolerance manufacturing. This category is the core of Tyrolit’s technical leadership, serving the automotive, aerospace, bearing, gear, medical, and cutting tool industries where surface finish, dimensional accuracy, and process capability (Cpk) are non-negotiable. The range includes wheels for centreless through-feed and plunge grinding, external and internal cylindrical grinding, surface and creepfeed grinding, gear grinding and honing, double-side face grinding, and tool and cutter grinding. Tyrolit’s GENIS 2 vitrified wheels incorporate nano-bond technologies that allow highly porous, lightweight structures which cut cooler, require less dressing, and enable higher feed rates. For superabrasive applications, Tyrolit offers diamond and CBN wheels in electroplated, metal, and resin bonds for grinding carbide, ceramics, hardened tool steel, and titanium. Every wheel is specified using precise parameters—abrasive type, grit size, hardness grade, structure, and bond—customized to the machine tool, coolant, and workpiece material. This science-based approach enables manufacturers to achieve optimal cycle times, wheel life, and quality, backed by Tyrolit’s global application engineering and on-site process optimization.

Chip-Forming Cutting Action for Extreme Stock Removal

Carbide teeth or diamond segments cut grooves and chips, removing up to 5 mm of concrete or asphalt in a single pass without glazing, overheating, or producing choking fine dust.

Rapid Removal of Thick Coatings and Overlays

Excels where conventional diamond grinding fails, cleanly stripping epoxy, polyurethane, thermoplastic, and bituminous layers without melting or loading the tool.

Significantly Lower Heat and Dust Generation

The milling process produces larger chips rather than aerosolized dust, reducing airborne silica and improving jobsite visibility and safety while extending tool life.

Compatible with Tyrolit Floor Milling and Hand-Held Machines

Tooling is optimized for Tyrolit’s own floor milling machines and angle grinder adapters, ensuring perfect balance, power transmission, and dust extraction.

Long Tool Life with Replaceable Segments

Many Tyrolit milling tools feature replaceable carbide teeth or diamond segments, allowing a worn tool to be refurbished and reducing long-term consumable cost.

Multi-Substrate Capability

A single milling drum can be specified to handle asphalt, concrete, coatings, and adhesives, eliminating time-consuming tool changes on mixed-material renovation projects.

Why Tyrolit Milling Outperforms Traditional Grinding on Thick Coatings and Uneven Slabs

Grinding concrete with diamond abrasives is essentially a sanding operation: the diamond points scratch the surface away. This becomes inefficient when dealing with soft, flexible coatings that gum up diamonds, or heavily worn floors with deep ruts and undulations. Milling tools cut through these problems literally. Tyrolit milling drums equipped with carbide teeth bite into the floor, planning the surface down to a uniform level in a single pass. For example, removing 3 mm of extruded thermoplastic line marking on a factory floor could take a diamond grinder 30 minutes per square meter of repeated passes with constant clogging; the Tyrolit milling machine achieves the same removal in under 2 minutes. Additionally, the milled surface provides an immediate keyed profile for screeds and mortars. The process is also economically superior: less machine runtime means lower fuel/electricity cost, less operator time, and less secondary waste handling. The milling category is therefore essential for contractors taking on heavy restoration projects.

Milling Tool Configurations and Machine Integration

Tyrolit’s milling assortment includes cup milling wheels for hand-held wall chasers and concrete grinders (enabling precise edge milling and slot cutting), and larger, segmented drum assemblies for Tyrolit’s dedicated floor milling machines. The drums can be populated with different cutter types: coarse tungsten carbide for asphalt and soft stone; fine carbide for brittle coatings; diamond segments for hard concrete. The correct cutter selection depends on the material hardness and desired surface texture. Tyrolit application support provides recommendations based on the specific machine model and intended use. Quick-change drum systems allow operators to swap cutter assemblies in minutes, facilitating a shift from milling to grinding if a refined surface finish is subsequently required.
