Tyrolit Mounted Points are small grinding tools consisting of an abrasive head permanently bonded to a steel spindle shank, used in straight grinders, flexible shafts, CNC machines, and micromotors for intricate deburring, die polishing, chamfering, and jig grinding. Available in thousands of shapes (ball, cylinder, cone, tree, flame) and in a wide array of abrasive types (aluminium oxide, silicon carbide, ceramic), Tyrolit mounted points are indispensable in tool and die making, moldmaking, aerospace component finishing, and medical device manufacturing. The abrasive head is typically a vitrified or resinoid bonded wheel that is crushed and shaped, then fired to produce a hard, self-sharpening, porous grinding tool that doesn’t burn or load. Tyrolit’s expertise ensures that points maintain their shape for precise corner radii, yet wear progressively to expose new cutting grains. This provides consistent stock removal with minimal vibration. Mounted points are used for operations where larger wheels cannot access—inside intricate EDM cavities, cross-hole intersections, seal grooves, and turbine blade fir tree profiles. Die and mold polishing is an art, but the rough grinding and shaping stages demand aggressive material removal without sacrificing precision. Tyrolit mounted points provide the aggressive cut of a grinding wheel in a miniature, highly controllable form. A cylindrical point can quickly grind a flat gate seal area; a spherical point can deburr a cross-drilled oil passage in an engine block. Selecting Mounted Point Shapes and Grits for Complex Geometries

The standard shapes each solve a problem: ball points for internal spheres and round bottom grooves, cylinder points for flat surfaces and edges, tree points with radius for fillets and relief blending, flame points for tight corners. Grit selection: 46–60 for rapid stock removal, 80–100 for general shaping, 120–220 for fine finishing.
