Tyrolit Non-Woven Discs | Surface Conditioning Discs for Angle Grinders & Sanders
Tyrolit Non-Woven Discs are premium surface conditioning abrasives in disc format, designed for use on angle grinders, orbital sanders, and dedicated surface finishing tools. Unlike coated abrasive discs that rely on a single layer of grain, these discs are manufactured from a dense, three-dimensional web of nylon fibers permeated with uniform Tyrolit abrasive grains. The result is a disc that cuts cool, resists loading, produces a consistent matte or satin finish, and lasts many times longer than equivalent coated abrasive discs. Tyrolit non-woven discs are available in a wide range of diameters (from 50 mm to 230 mm) with various attachment systems: arbor holes for backing pad use, quick-change (TR/Type III) mounts for rapid swapping, and self-adhesive or hook-and-loop (Velcro) backs for orbital sanders. Grits range from very coarse for heavy cleaning and paint removal to extra-fine for final cosmetic finishing. The controlled aggression of the non-woven web makes these discs the tool of choice for weld seam blending without undercutting, removing light rust and oxidation without pitting base metal, scuffing surfaces prior to painting or bonding, and creating attractive linear or swirl finishes on architectural metalwork. Stainless steel fabricators, paint preparation contractors, automotive body repair technicians, and metal polishing operations all depend on Tyrolit non-woven discs for consistent, professional results.

Loading-Free Finishing Action
The open web structure sheds debris continuously, preventing the clogging that brings coated discs to a halt when working with aluminium, paint, plastics, and soft metals.
Consistent, Predictable Surface Finish
The three-dimensional abrasive distribution produces a uniform matte, satin, or brushed finish without the deep directional scratches that can cause paint flaws or stress risers.
Cool Cutting Reduces Heat Damage
Airflow through the non-woven web dissipates heat, preventing blueing, warping, and metallurgical changes that can occur with resin-fiber discs on thin or heat-sensitive materials.
Multiple Attachment Types for Any Machine
Arbor hole, quick-change snap-mount, hook-and-loop, and adhesive back options ensure compatibility with angle grinders, random orbital sanders, mini-grinders, and specialty finishers.
Extended Lifespan and Lower Cost Per Part
The non-woven structure wears gradually from the surface, continuously exposing fresh grain, and lasts significantly longer than equivalent coated abrasive discs, reducing disc consumption and changeover time.
Safe for Contamination-Sensitive Materials
Iron-free, chlorine-free, and sulfur-free manufacturing options are standard for stainless steel applications, preventing pitting corrosion and ensuring material integrity.
Why Tyrolit Non-Woven Discs Outperform Conventional Abrasive Discs for Surface Conditioning
The unique value of non-woven abrasives lies in their conformability and uniform cutting action. A resin-fiber disc or sandpaper removes material by cutting with exposed grain tips; when those tips dull or load, the disc stops cutting and often leaves a harsh, irregular scratch pattern. Tyrolit non-woven discs, with grain distributed throughout the fiber matrix, present fresh cutting edges continuously, producing a soft, even scratch pattern that is highly desirable for architectural, food-grade, and medical finishes. This makes them indispensable for blending TIG weld seams on stainless steel where an artistic, flawless finish is required—no undercutting, no heat tint, no directional scratches. Additionally, the discs provide a degree of forgiveness: they will not accidentally gouge or remove excessive material if an operator momentarily applies uneven pressure, making them ideal for less-experienced workers or delicate components. For high-end metal furniture, automotive trim, and process piping, Tyrolit non-woven discs are the standard for achieving repeatable, high-value surface aesthetics.

Non-Woven Disc Selection by Application and Machine Type
Choosing the right non-woven disc involves matching the grit, disc diameter, and attachment system to the application and power tool. For heavy cleaning and paint removal on large surfaces, very coarse (CRS) or coarse (MED) grit 178mm or 230mm discs with backing pad mounts on angle grinders provide maximum productivity. For general weld blending and rust removal, medium grit 115–125mm discs with quick-change mounts on angle grinders are the most common configuration. For fine finishing and satin graining, fine (FIN) or very fine (VFN) grit discs in 125–150mm hook-and-loop format on random orbital sanders produce an exceptionally even, swirl-free appearance. Tyrolit also offers specialized non-woven discs for sanitary tube finishing, with center holes that allow the disc to wrap around pipe diameters.
