Tyrolit Rondeller System | Combination Flap & Fibre Disc for Angle Grinders
The Tyrolit Rondeller is a patented, unique abrasive system that combines the aggressive stock removal capabilities of a fibre disc with the edge durability and blending characteristics of a flap disc, all in a single quick-change tool format. The Rondeller consists of a central plastic hub with integrated flaps and a specially designed fibre abrasive disc that is quickly replaced when worn, without the need for a separate backing pad. This innovative design solves two persistent angle grinder problems: the edge tearing and “gouging” of fibre discs, and the relatively slow aggressive cut of standard flap discs. The Rondeller’s fibre disc removes metal at benchmark-setting speeds, while the surrounding flaps prevent the sharp disc edge from digging into the workpiece, granting the operator greater control and the ability to grind flat surfaces smoothly. It also provides a superior finishing action compared to a pure fibre disc. When the central abrasive disc is consumed, the operator simply snaps a new Tyrolit Rondeller fibre disc onto the reusable hub, reducing waste and consumable cost. The system is ideal for heavy weld removal, surface levelling on steel plate, and edge chamfering. Fabricators, shipbuilders, and steel erectors have widely adopted the Rondeller for its significant time savings and reduced total abrasive spend per ton of steel processed.

Dual-Action Grinding and Blending
Combines fibre disc aggression and flap disc edge control, removing weld fast without gouging the parent metal, producing a smoother surface ready for painting in one step.
Reusable Hub, Lower Consumable Cost
Only the abrasive disc is replaced; the hub and integrated flaps last through many disc changes, dramatically reducing plastic waste and cost per disc change compared to individual flap discs.
Quick-Change Snap-On Discs
Tyrolit Rondeller fibre discs snap securely onto the hub in seconds without tools, minimizing grinder downtime between abrasive changes and accelerating shop floor workflow.
Anti-Gouge Safety Feature
The surrounding flap material extends slightly beyond the fibre disc edge, preventing the common fibre disc problem of digging into sharp corners or edges, making it safer for operators.
Excellent for Edge and Bevel Grinding
The system excels at grinding plate edges, I-beam flanges, and other structural profile edges where a standard flap disc would bounce and a fibre disc would catch.
High Stock Removal with Less Fatigue
The balanced assembly and stable grinding platform allow the operator to use the machine’s full power with less physical wrestling, reducing fatigue on long production runs.
Why the Tyrolit Rondeller Is Replacing Standard Flap Discs and Fibre Discs
Many operators default to a standard flap disc for everything, or a fibre disc for heavy work. The Rondeller captures the best of both. On heavy structural steel, a standard flap disc wears its edges quickly, creating a mushroomed profile that no longer grinds effectively. A fibre disc, while aggressive, can catch the edge of a steel plate and kick back, and it requires a rubber backing pad that wears and needs replacement. The Rondeller’s combination eliminates both failure modes. The surrounding flaps not only protect the disc edge but also sweep the work area, removing debris and smoothing the grind pattern. Early adopters in bridge construction and heavy fabrication report reducing their abrasive disc consumption by up to 40% and completing grinding operations 30% faster. The quick-change system also appeals to supervisors who want to minimize the time skilled welders spend changing discs.

Rondeller System Setup and Disc Grit Selection
The Tyrolit Rondeller starter kit includes a hub with integrated flaps and a selection of fibre discs. Discs are available in ceramic (for maximum life and aggressive cut on hard steel) and zirconia (for cost-effective performance on mild steel and stainless), in grits from 36 to 80. The system is used on standard 125 mm angle grinders. The reusable hub lasts approximately 10–15 disc changes under normal use. Tyrolit also provides strip discs and finishing fleeces that fit the Rondeller hub, expanding the system’s versatility to include paint removal and surface conditioning.
