Tyrolit Rough Cleaning Rollers | Large-Area Non-Woven & Wire Cleaning Rollers
Tyrolit Rough Cleaning Rollers are wide-format, cylindrical brushes and non-woven abrasive rollers designed for installation in automated or hand-fed cleaning machines to rapidly prepare large metal surfaces. These rollers—available in oil-tempered steel wire, stainless steel wire, and abrasive-impregnated non-woven constructions—are the tooling behind industrial descaling, paint removal, and surface texturing lines for steel plate, sheet metal, profiles, and fabricated parts. In a typical application, such as cleaning steel plates before plasma cutting or painting, the roller rotates at high speed while the workpiece is fed through, removing rust, scale, and surface contaminants in a single pass, uniformly across the full width. Tyrolit wire cleaning rollers use densely packed, precisely balanced wire packs to deliver consistent aggression without damaging the base metal. The non-woven abrasive rollers are impregnated with silicon carbide or aluminium oxide and provide a smear-free, paint-ready surface finish. These rollers are custom-manufactured to specific lengths, diameters, and core fittings to suit any cleaning machine, including shipyard plate lines, coil coating lines, and structural beam processors. The result is a massive reduction in manual grinding labor, a uniform surface profile for coating adhesion, and a cleaner, safer work environment.

Full-Width Uniform Cleaning
Tyrolit rollers are manufactured with consistent wire density or abrasive grain distribution across the entire face, eliminating stripe marks and ensuring every square centimetre of the plate receives the same surface treatment.
Custom-Built to Any Machine Configuration
Rollers are tailor-made for specific machine inventory—providing exact diameter, length, shaft size, and keyway details—as a direct performance upgrade over standard OEM tooling.
Massive Throughput Increase
Single-pass cleaning at feed speeds up to 10 meters per minute replaces hours of manual grinding, enabling just-in-time surface preparation inline with cutting and welding operations.
Extended Roller Life in High-Duty Cycles
Advanced wire tempering and non-woven web bonding stand up to the sustained heat and pressure of automated processing lines, reducing roller change frequency and production stoppages.
Dedicated INOX Rollers for Stainless Plate
Stainless steel wire rollers clean stainless steel plates without ferrous contamination, crucial for nuclear, pharmaceutical, and food-grade fabrication environments.
Environmentally Cleaner Process
Tyrolit rough cleaning rollers generate coarse, heavy debris that is easily captured by extraction systems, unlike sandblasting, and require no chemical strippers or media that become hazardous waste.
Why Tyrolit Cleaning Rollers Are a Sound Capital Investment for Steel Service Centers
Steel service centers and heavy fabricators survive on value-added processing. Upgrading a cleaning line with Tyrolit rollers directly adds billable service: a plate cleaned to SA 2.5 standard is worth significantly more. Tyrolit’s application engineers work with the service center to determine the optimal roller specification—wire type, wire diameter, roller density, and operating RPM—to achieve the required surface cleanliness standard (ISO 8501) at the desired line speed. The payback period is often measured in months, as the savings in manual grinding labor, abrasive discs, and coating rejection quickly offset the roller cost. Additionally, Tyrolit rollers maintain their cleaning efficiency for much longer than generic rollers, providing stable, predictable processing quality that customers trust.

Wire vs. Abrasive Non-Woven Roller Selection
Wire rollers are used for heavy descaling, weld slag removal, and creating a mechanically keyed surface profile. Abrasive non-woven rollers are used for removing light rust, preparing surfaces for thin-film coatings, and conditioning surfaces where a smooth, polished finish is required before painting. Often, Tyrolit configures a combination of rollers in series: a wire roller for aggressive descaling followed by an abrasive non-woven roller for finishing. The application team can provide a complete roller specification package, including a recommended maintenance and dressing schedule to maximize service life.
