Tyrolit Taper Brushes | Conical & End Wire Brushes for Confined Grinding
Tyrolit Taper Brushes are specially shaped cup and end brushes where the wire fill is arranged in a graduated or conical (tapered) profile, enabling access into tight corners, inner radii, grooves, threaded holes, and T-joints that standard flat-face brushes cannot reach. The taper design brings the most aggressive wire tips to a point or narrow edge, allowing the operator to clean weld root passes, deburr internal port edges, and prepare pipe bevels with precision. Tyrolit manufactures taper brushes in knotted and crimped wire configurations, using high-carbon steel, INOX stainless steel, and brass wire. The threaded nut (M14, 5/8"-11 UNC) or shank mount is integral to the brush body, ensuring concentric rotation and minimal vibration on angle grinders or straight die grinders. In pipe fabrication, structural welding, and heavy equipment repair, a Tyrolit taper brush is an essential tool for achieving the surface quality in confined spaces that determines welding code acceptance. The unique geometry significantly reduces preparation time compared to a file or a hand brush, whilst maintaining full visibility of the work zone.

Precision Tapered Wire Profile
The conical arrangement of wires penetrates into tight root welds, narrow bevels, and sharp corners, cleaning areas that flat cup brushes and wheels cannot physically touch.
Knotted Taper for Maximum De-Slagging
Twisted knot taper brushes deliver a rotary hammering action that shatters and expels heavy welding slag from deep preparation grooves.
Crimped Taper for Fine Burr Removal
Finer wire and a softer brushing action allow operators to deburr precision-machined threads and port edges without altering the dimension or damaging the surface.
Full Face Utilization for Long Life
The tapered design ensures that wire wear occurs progressively from the tip backward, maintaining the brush’s aggressive attack angle throughout its usable life.
Weld Spatter Resistant Wire
Tyrolit uses specially formulated wire that resists the adhesion of weld spatter, preventing the brush from becoming balled-up and out of balance during prolonged use.
Threaded and Shank Mounts for All Machines
Available in M14 and UNC threads for angle grinders, and 6 mm shanks for straight die grinders, enabling their use with the most common power tools in metal fabrication.
Why Welders and Pipefitters Prefer Tyrolit Taper Brushes
In pipe welding, the root pass must be perfectly clean before the hot pass is applied; any trapped slag is a defect detectable by X-ray or ultrasonic testing, leading to costly cut-outs and re-welds. Tyrolit’s knotted taper brush is designed to be pushed directly into the weld bevel, its rotating point aggressively scouring the root face and side walls. The operation is fast and gives the welder a clear visual of the cleaned surface. The durability of the Tyrolit wire means the brush keeps its shape and aggression, rather than “mushing out” after a few minutes like cheap brushes. For pressure vessel and structural shops, the reliability of the Tyrolit taper brush directly contributes to first-pass weld acceptance rates.

Choosing Knotted vs. Crimped Taper Brushes for Metal Fabrication
A knotted taper brush is the tool for aggressive cleaning of weld bevels, corners, and removing heavy rust around bolt holes. A crimped taper brush is selected for lighter deburring, surface blending at radius edges, and cleaning around stud threads where the aggressive impact of a knotted brush could cause thread damage. INOX brass taper brushes are thin and flexible for cleaning electrical components and instrumentation threads. The brush diameter (typically 100 mm for standard angle grinders) must meet the access constraints of the job; Tyrolit also supplies mini-taper brushes for die grinders to access very tight internal spaces.
