Tyrolit Tool Grinding Wheels | Diamond & CBN Wheels for Cutting Tool Manufacture

Tyrolit Rough Cleaning Tools are a complete range of heavy-duty, power-driven and hand-operated abrasive and wire brush products for the aggressive removal of rust, scale, paint, weld slag, and corrosion from metal surfaces, as well as texturing and deburring of components in steel fabrication, foundries, shipbuilding, and maintenance operations. The category encompasses a wide variety of brush forms—circular wheel brushes, cup brushes, end brushes, hand wire brushes, wide-face cleaning rollers, and abrasive-impregnated nylon cleaning discs. The wire brushes are manufactured from high-tensile steel wire, stainless steel wire, and brass wire, each selected for their specific cleaning action and base metal compatibility. Tyrolit’s proprietary wire tempering and knotting processes ensure maximum brush life, aggressive cutting, and balanced operation at high RPM on angle grinders and bench motors. Abrasive rough cleaning discs and rollers embed sharp silicon carbide or aluminium oxide grain in a resilient, non-woven fiber matrix, providing a loading-resistant, smear-free alternative for removing paint, adhesives, and surface contaminants. These tools bridge the gap between chemical stripping and full abrasive grinding, providing a fast, economical method of surface preparation that leaves a clean, profiled metal surface ready for welding, painting, or coating. Tyrolit rough cleaning tools are essential for any industrial operation where removing thick, bonded fouling is a daily necessity.

Extreme Profile Retention for Flute Grinding

Hybrid and resin-vitrified bonds maintain sharp wheel corners over hundreds of parts, ensuring precise flute geometry and core diameter on carbide end mills and drills.

Mirror-Finish Flute Capability

Fine grit diamond wheels (<D46) with specialized low-friction bonds grind flutes to optical smoothness, improving chip flow and eliminating secondary polishing of high-performance tools.

Complete Machine Platform Coverage

Wheels are manufactured to exact OEM spindle specifications (arbor, form, thickness) for ANCA, Walter, Rollomatic, and other CNC tool grinders, ensuring perfect fit and balance.

High Material Removal Rates without Carbide Damage

The free-cutting bond design minimizes grinding heat, preventing the micro-cracks that blunt the tool's cutting edge and reducing scrap rates.

Full Wheel Set Solutions

Tyrolit provides matched sets of wheels (flute grinding, gashing, OD clearance) for complete tool manufacture, ensuring consistent quality across all grinding stations.

Application Engineering for Advanced Tool Geometries

Tyrolit specialists work with tool designers to recommend wheel specs for complex profiles such as variable helix, chip breakers, and K-land edges on indexable inserts.

Why Tyrolit Is the Premier Abrasive Partner for Cutting Tool Manufacturers

The global cutting tool industry is fiercely competitive, demanding ever-tighter tolerances and shorter cycle times. Tyrolit’s R&D investments are directly aligned with these trends. The development of ultra-hard, porous vitrified diamond bonds enables tool grinders to run at higher infeed speeds without thermal damage to the tungsten carbide—a critical advantage when grinding small-diameter (0.5 mm) micro-tools. Tyrolit’s wheels are used to manufacture the tools that then machine everything from smartphone bodies to jet engine turbines. By providing a complete abrasive and dressing solution, Tyrolit enables tool manufacturers to optimize the entire grinding process, reducing variables and improving the process capability index (Cpk) for their product lines. On-site support includes wheel qualification, cycle time studies, and training to ensure that maximum performance is extracted from every wheel.

Selecting Diamond and CBN Wheels for Specific Tool Grinding Operations

Flute grinding: 1A1 or 1V1 resin-bond or hybrid bond diamond wheels are standard, with grit D54–D91 for standard flutes, D46–D64 for fine finishing. Gashing/End tooth grinding: 1V1 or 11V9 wheels with sharp edge forms. Clearance (OD) grinding: 1A1 CBN or diamond wheels, often with a more aggressive bond. Tyrolit’s technical support team can take a tool print and machine type and compile a full wheel specification package, reducing the development time for new tool designs from weeks to days.
